Short Profile

27-year of experience and expertise in Biotechnology, Stem Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, Genomics, Proteomics etc.

Postdoctoral Fellowships at Mount Sinai Medical School, New York, USA, UMass Medical School, Worcester, USA and Leeds Institute of Molecular Medicine, St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, UK.

PhD with summa cum laude in Human Biology from Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) Munich, Germany (ranked 8 in Europe and 33 in World University Rankings 2023 by Times Higher Education).

MSc in Biotechnology from University of Kent at Canterbury, England with British Government ODASSS scholarship.

My vision is to develop a research and teaching institute of highest quality which can offer certificate and degree programs by focusing on practical hands-on training on cutting edge techniques and protocols at cellular and molecular level.

At ICSCCB since 2011, we have trained more than 2500 people of all levels (From Bachelors, Masters, PhDs, Professors, Scientists, Doctors etc.) and many of them have established their own stem cell/Cancer/molecular biology labs or research/teaching programs all over India and some from abroad as well.

We have organized several international conferences on stem cells & cancer and on biotechnology & bioinformatics areas. Many participants have established successful research/teaching collaborations through these meetings where our motto is “bringing people together”.

Some of the projects I worked on:

  1. Regulation of Darpp32 gene in medium spiny neurons of the brain striatum.
  2. TGF-beta signaling in the proliferation and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells.
  3. Role of polycomb group protein Bmi1 in hematopoiesis and myeloid leukemias.
  4. Role of JNK signaling in pathogenesis of leukemias in animal models.
  5. Proteomics of AML1-ETO target proteins in t(8;21) myeloid leukemia.
  6. Ras signaling enhances the activity of C/EBPalpha to induce granulocytic differentiation by phosphorylation of serine 248.
  7. Genetic engineering of Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.) for insect resistance.
  8. Molecular biology of Bacillus thuringiensis.
  9. Biochemical characterization of ectomycorrhizal fungi.

Laboratory skills:

Making inducible cell lines in mouse and human cells using Tet-inducible, Zn-inducible and Beta-Estradiol/Tamoxifen-inducible systems for hematopoietic and leukemic cancer genes/proteins and growth factors. Extensive mammalian cell culture experience. Hematopoietic stem cell cultures, embryonic stem cell cultures, primary neuronal cell cultures, proteomics for target and interacting proteins, protein-protein interaction assays, gene/protein expressions systems, transfections and retroviral/lentiviral transductions, bone marrow extraction and transplantation in mice, flow cytometry (FACS), mass spectrometry, proliferation/differentiation/apoptosis assays, all tissue culture techniques, promoter/gene cloning and characterization assays, DNA gel electrophoresis, PCR, real-time PCR, reverse transcription PCR, EMSA (gelshift assay), western blotting, transactivation/luciferase assays, immunoprecipitation, in-vivo phosphopeptide mapping, and other general molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
